Oh God. End of May would be horrible. They have no valid reason for it to take that long.

I think Su's typical FB videos fall on Tuesday. So hopefully tomorrow she will speak about it.

That’s just hearsay but so is next weekend cause I was told by a rep May16th-ish,
Some reps still have 0 idea when PEUC will start
and others are manually being converted to PUA by EDD over the phone

The last option is the only one where people have already been paid retro and everything
Literally been in this forum for 2 months no PEUC in site PUA might be the only way

I was just reading Twitter and someone else posted about the end of May too. It was info from a rep. Who knows!

Also found this old article from 2013 someone on Twitter quoted about the problems with the website. They spent $157.8 million "upgrading" the system.

California’s EDD Unemployment System Disaster: Predictable Fiasco?

I wonder in a case like this, could the Feds intervene to give people the money directly? I guess not but I'm just grasping at straws.

Yeah, as well all know the lack of information is just absurd. Again, taking into account the influx of mass claims and some room for fault in acclimating systems etc is understandable but ripping jobs away from people and leaving them in limbo is asinine.

I was told to contact a local office which I did and that rep gave me completely contradictory information to what everyone else had said on the phone. I mean it was a complete 180 from the gov PDF I read online too so I fee like most people on the phone have just about as vague as information as we're all trying to piece together.

I'm hoping and praying for next weekend but am ready for the state to let us down again too.

Got through again to a rep just now, no help at all. Less than the first time.
Not even a time frame. Same read from a script “we’re working on it ASAP”
And she told me to “keep checking Edd site religiously for updated information”
Yeah same Edd site with outdated PUA info and still info for the auto claiming period

I seem coming from the other side: searching for confirmation after unexpectedly received weekly certification claims by snail mail on Friday 05/08/2020. The return address is "UIC Trade Center, P.O. Box ****, Sacramento CA *****".
I am from California. Unemployment benefits exhausted first week of Nov. 2019. Claim year ended first week of May 2020.
I logged on EDD Online portal but no info there, just New Claim page.
I filled out and mailed the form next day. Hopefully I would receive something concrete by end of this week. Would keep you posted.
Cheers.

I have a similar timeframe as you. Exhausted in Oct, claim ended April 4th. Filled out new claim. Received weekly benefits letter a week or so later. Nothing since then. My online acct hasn't changed.

I saw this on a May 8 FB post. I'm wondering if I should start calling again.

It doesn't make sense though that he approved another 26 weeks for her since she already had 26 weeks.

CA EDD Unemployment - Good News! Here's my story in case it helps anyone else in my situation.

My benefits were exhausted and my benefits year ends May 16. I have been confused about whether I can get the PEUC when it's established, or transition to PUA, or start a whole new UI claim. When my EDD portal opened up to allow me to file a new claim last Sunday May 3, I went through the now lengthy process and then it sat processing. I called the 833 number two days ago, spoke to the tech support rep, asked to get a call back from a claims specialist, got impatient by this morning so thought I would try the impossible process of calling the 800 number.

After four tries I actually got the on-hold music, after being told the expected wait time was three minutes. This was the first time in six weeks of trying that I ever got the on-hold music. Well, it was 80 minutes of holding, but when the man who finally took my call started talking to me I thought, oh my god, I have been saved. Never have I dealt with a kinder, sweeter more helpful representative in any organization, ever. He started by telling me that as my benefits year was about to end, that PEUC would not happen in time as they don't even know when it's coming, and it can only be applied if your benefits are exhausted but you are still in your benefits year. So once May 16 ticked over, he said, the right EDD team would start processing my new claim and in due course (which he admitted could take time) I would receive a letter telling me if I am eligible for new benefits, and if not, that they would then advise me to apply for PUA and see if I could get that. We talked for a while and I was about to be left with an open ended situation, thinking I would just call back on May 18. And then he asked if I had a claim confirmation number. Oh yes, of course, here it is, I said, giving it to him. And he said he would look into it and promised to get back to me one way or another on my phone number.

He called me back 90 minutes later saying he had good news, he had processed my claim, it would begin from May 17, but I would not be able to certify for those weeks until May 31. I will get the full $450 I was receiving on my benefits last year, plus the $600 per week until July 31, or longer if the CARES Act is extended, which he said could be likely. I will get 26 weeks of the $450 either way, unless of course I get a job. And he said even that could be extended depending on how things pan out for the rest of the year. He also said he had seen two messages I had sent and had replied to both of those to make sure everything is dealt with in my account.

Before finishing, he told me that he had been a military man, and then transitioned into assisting veterans to get into rehab. He then started working with the EDD and it is his mission to be as kind and helpful as possible. He is based in the San Bernadino office, told me he is envious that I live in Santa Monica, and that his favorite things is to drive up to Malibu and see the ocean.

How lucky was I to get such a kind, sweet human being to help me after so many weeks of frustration and despair? There are real people at the EDD. I agree with everyone here who has said when you do get someone on the phone, be as kind and thankful to them as possible. This man has made me cry with gratitude. Thanks for reading.
She added:

Quote:
check your EDD account online two weeks before [it ends] - so this Sunday. You might find it now gives you the option to file a new claim. That's what happened to me and another friend who has the exact same benefits year as me. Be prepared as the filing process is much more comprehensive than previously, but your previous W2 employer will have been saved in the system and should come up as an option. Then when you get to the Disaster Impact page, fill that in and say COVID-19 is the reason you are impacted.
Quote:
It’s going to be a new claim but based on the W2 from my previous claim. I haven’t received money yet as I can’t certify yet. But it’s set up ready to go with new benefits from May 17. You’ll be better off with a new claim.

This doesn't make sense to me. Sounds like she got PUA but thinks it's a regular claim.

Yeah it’s several people online, some posted proof their previous exhausted but open claim year claim got literally CANCELLED, then converted into PUA with a whole new claim year 365 days from that date.
I’ve got 4 different reps who have no idea what I’m talking about when I reference that ,
The ones who had a rep switch them are already in now and got the backpaid +600 a week.

Total bs

The 2511 number does nothing, all they do is read script saying “PEUC should be coming soon blah blah”
The 800 number which is much harder to get into you need to luck out and find a good or higher up rep..
With so few people in this situation our voice will not be heard the “soon” has been going on 2 months now.
People need to scour the internet, find out you need to play a phone lottery and get the right rep to MANUALLY give you PUA. PEUC still has no date.

I posted a whole thread about this that got buried.
Literally the only way you’ll be seeing money backpaid anytime soon is having a rep switch you to PUA.
End of story

What I’ve seen in common with most of the “exhausted but got switched to PUA” people is (I’m not sure what number it is they’re calling) they are requesting or being scheduled to have a follow up phone call that takes a couple days, several days later they’re called by a tier-2 rep who assists them with moving to PUA. None of the tier-1 edd reps have any idea what’s going on cause 99% of their phone calls are the new filers, penalty weeks, disqualified, etc. people.
The 1% is us need PEUC is the reps we get have no info on it but the same info we have

Yet when I got through once and asked a rep for a call back they said there’s no such thing as callbacks. Lol
