Big doings today in New York against baseball's best team. The Astros threw a combined no-hitter against the Yankees (and Gerrit Cole) today, 3-0. Cristian Javier, Hector Neris, and Ryan Pressly combined for fifteen strikeouts in the 14th no-no in Astros history.

Jose Altuve continues to torment the Yankees. He slashed a second-deck homer in the eighth.

Yankees don't get no hit often, but when it happens, HOuston is the one that does it. Yankees have been no hit twice since the start of the 1959 season. Both times it came when Houston was the opponent, both times it came when Houston was the visiting team, and both times were combined no hitters. In 2003, because of an injury to starter Roy Oswalt, they used 7 pitchers in that no hitter in 2003, and in 2022 they used 3 pitchers.

Clicked on the thread to post that the no hitter happened and that it was only the second handed to the Yankees since the 50s, both by the Astros....but case44 and 7express already covered that.

Congrats again to the team !!!!!

Only the Mets and the Yankees have better records, with the Mets being equal to the Astros in the loss column and having two more wins (the Yankees....6 behind in the loss column, and 7 ahead in the win column re the Astros)

Any Astros fans who happened to be in Queens today could have enjoyed an inexpensive treat.

I was looking at the Astros schedule on ESPN.com this morning, and the ticket thing at the end of each line (game) showed the cheapest available ticket for today to be $7.00.

Verlander pitched 8 innings of two hit ball for a 2-0 victory to be the first pitcher in the majors to 10 wins, and he lowered his ERA to a third best in the majors 2.03 .

Only the Yankees have a better record than the Astros.

Hopefully the medical tests come back a-okay for Alvarez and Pena, who collided going for a catch.

The Astros continue to boast some of the best pitching in the American League this season, and today was not an exception. This is a staff that damn nearly had two no-hitters in a row a few days ago against a tough Yankees team. They would end that series with only a split as NY barged back in a big way.

So, now, we've seen a satisfying sweep against Houston's expansion cousins, the Mets. Another great performance by Justin Verlander, who is now the subject of Cy Young discussions.

And Yordan Alvarez got in a collision with Jeremy Pena, who made a sensational play in the seventh inning of today's game while the former was happening. Both players are being evaluated for concussions. Fingers crossed.

Up next in the schedule is a one-gamer with the Yankees at Minute Maid as the Astros return home. It's a leftover from what should have been Opening Week. Salsa (Luis Garcia) pitches for Houston tomorrow night (as of this writing). Following that game is a weekend series with the LA Angels. Even though there is a lot of baseball left, the rest of the AL West is way down right now, and Houston is as poised as ever to go after this year's division title.

Yeah, after that Yankees game, and before the All Star Break.......6 games against the A's, 6 Games against the Angels, and 4 games against Kansas City.

I have Apple TV+, so I'm planning to watch this Friday 4/1's game.

Verlander is pitching on the 4th of July .

If I was an Astros fan I would have probably been happy with a 3-6 record through these 9 games, and at worst they'll finish 6-3. I know there's still a lot of games left to be played, but it seems like the Astros have put the division to bed. This was the time for the Rangers, Angels and Mariners to make up ground, and in fact 2 of the 3 teams have actually LOST games, with a 3rd team potentially losing games as well, and it's not like it was a challenging slate of games for the division. The Angels were playing 3 games against the hapless Royals, 3 against the Mariners, and 3 against the White Sox, the Mariners had 3 games against the A's and 3 against the Orioles sandwiched around the Angels series while the Rangers were playing 2 games in Philly, 3 against the Nationals, and 3 against the Royals.

On the morning of June 21, when the Astros started this stretch, they were 10 up on both the Rangers and Angels who were tied for 2nd, and the Mariners were 13 back in 4th. After the games conclude on June 30, the Rangers will be either 10.5 or 11.5 up on Texas, 11.5 or 12.5 up on the Angels, while the Mariners, the only team that so far has actually gained a game will be either 12.5 back (if both teams have the same result [Mariners play Oakland], 11.5 back (if they win and the Yankees beat the Astros), or will drop 13.5 behind if they lose and the Astros win. So. I'd say that was a pretty successful week, but really with 2 walk off losses in the Bronx leading by multiple runs in the late innings, the Angels, Rangers, and Mariners should probably be thankful they aren't even further behind really!

I think you mean the Astros there.

Love it .

Bregman’s bases loaded 2 out 2 RBI cdouble was enough, with the Astros winning 2-1.

Only one run given up during 152 pitches……Garcia’s home run to Rizzo on his 101st and final pitch, after 5 1/3 and 6 K’s.

Then an 18 pitch, 1 K, 2/3 of an inning from Stanek to finish the 6th, an 8 pitch, 1 K, 7th for Neris, a 12 pitch, 1 K, 8th for Montero, and a 13 pitch, 2 K, 9th for Pressly.

The Yankees…….88 pitches in 6 innings for Severino, a 14 pitch 7th for Marinaccio, and a 12 pitch 8th for Abreu.

2 hour 54 minute game…..just after 5pm start in Houston (a make up game from April).

Sellout crowd.

(I listened to the whole game on the radio while also following it in the play by play section of Gamecast on ESPN.com)
