Agreed - don't think anyone wants to see a thread about 2 very mediocre college sports programs that happen to have a decent team every once in a while but never actually compete for the championship.

The thread was not about WVU, until some Pitt fans became unhappy with certain facts and started redirecting their anger toward WVU.

Im all for a WVU vs Pitt thread in the college football sports forum, although Pitt doesnt have a leg to stand on over the last decade.

For now let's keep the topic on Pitts exit strategy from the ACC.

I used to live in Texas and UT and A&M hate each other. Not just in sports. The alumnis dont hold each other in high regards, especially the Aggies. Ive attended committee meetings where A&M would complain that UT got too much and they didnt get anything, while UT would argue A&M got too much. They were rivals in all aspects, and like I said not just sports. A&M left because they hated UT, and UT called the shots. UT would have left if the position was revised. They are like Sunnis and Shias. Give them enough time and they will fight.

The ACC made the same mistakes the Big E made. Too much emphasis on basketball, especially from snobby elite schools, while neglecting the football schools. Too much focus on potential market share, and not enough on actual performance. The big E is like the conference USA now, and the ACC is like the old BE. This was not supposed to have happened but it did.

A&M Fans are nuttier than squirrel poop. If the opportunity to make more money drove Missouri and Nebraska out of the big 12, spite was the protagonist for the Aggies leaving.

The problem with the ACC's expansion is not that they screwed up initially. BC was solid, Miami was dominant, and they were lucky to have the hokies forced on them as they were a strong program as well. The failure of the ACC's expansion model was that when it became apparent that FSU/Miami weren't going to give the conference the national recognition they were hoping for the conference didn't look to adding teams that would strengthen the quality of the on field product.

I agree, I mentioned this in an earlier post. A&M hates UT, and not like WVU and Pitt dislike each other over a sports rivalry. Both schools are opposed to each other at all levels, and actually lobbyist against each other in the Texas government. A&M has always played second fiddle to UT and they left out of hatred for UT.

The ACC was good on paper, and their earlier expansions were supposed make them good. You are right though they didnt add any teams to make up for Miami's and VT's failures within the ACC. Adding Pitt and Syracuse did nothing to improve the football.

That's an improvement from the Big East, but the ACC will become the new Big East. It's a bad television deal that's backloaded with all sorts of stipulations. It looks good now, but it won't in 5 years.

The Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, and PAC 12 are going to be in much stronger positions than the ACC, especially if Florida State and Miami leave.

Certain comments seem to make their way against Pitt and when it's responded too the "don't make this about..." and then talk of recent years comes in which in itself is meant to be a passive aggressive comment.

The fact is recent years is the same as historic eras in the game.

If this were 1992, we would talking about how the SEC finally became relevant again.

No, that's called a television deal. I know that all sports fans are media experts, but that's how those deals are.

Syracuse would 'like to avoid litigation' against Big East

By Brett McMurphy | College Football Insider

...

"We've been trying to resolve the issue of conference transition with the Big East," Syracuse athletic director Daryl Gross said from the ACC's spring meetings. "We'd like to avoid litigation, but we're keeping all of our options open."

The ACC is a step up for Pitt. It sounds better to play UVA, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, than USF, etc.

The ACC isn't the Big 10 but it is better than the Big East.
