What if you don't smoke or drink alcohol? I don't think our seniors have the intent to commit fraud, I can just see it now, political parties driving our millions of seniors to the DMV to get their ID cards
So the alternative is just let anyone show up and vote?

the fact is that I or someone could walk into a polling place as say we are anyone who lives at such and such address and vote.. even if I am not that person...I believ we should check EVERYONE that they are who they say they are, and they live where they actually are registered.......not a name from the phonebook

You have to sign in at the polls and they compare your signature with the one they already have on file, which is your signature when you registered.b

The OP does not list just seniors, today in our Sunday paper a social worker wrote about the people in the nursing homes who do vote & that will affect them.

The OP affects others, if you were born in a certain year and do not drive, have no state issued ID, they are trying to make it that you cannot vote, no matter who.

Most of the younger people today would have a DL or state issued ID if they travel, times are not the same as years and years ago.

its a LIE to say that most seniors dont have an ID...especially when most DO

He does have a DL he has proof.

What if they are not that mobile?

Its not a lie, did you check any of the links I provided?

Folks in nursing homes can obtain id's the same way they register to vote, easy peasy.

Exactly, with certain laws or states you need to show the computer generated birth certificate, not your original.

My original BC was not acceptable for a passsport, I had to pay and travel & it was not in the city, to get the newer one that was a long long time ago, over 20 yrs ago.

The cost in my state for photo Id is $13.50 and $13.50 for renewal, they are not free in this state.

This is what one would look like depending on what state you are in, this is a State Issued Photo ID, not a DL.

Y'know, the funny (ironic) thing is that here in Colorado, almost all elections have gone to mail-in ballots. How ya gonna check ID on them?
Your right, where I prev lived we had mail in ballots.

My 85 year old father-in-law voluntarily turned in his drivers license and got a state ID to use when writing checks or for proof of ID when dealing with social security or the VA. Not that difficult, especially if you need to make purchases or have dealings with government offices. Thank you, now take offthe tin foil and stop watching MSNBC.

So anyone out there I'd let your parents know and children who can vote to go get a state issued ID card to vote, I'm all for proving citizenship, it isn't just about the illegals. I wrote this in the past, now down the road your parents will not be able to vote unless they have the state issued ID card.
again & again

Voting rights advocates note that there are large numbers of people who do not have the state-issued photo ID the bill requires. According to a recent University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee study, those without state-issued photo ID who would need to obtain one under the new Voter ID bill include:
* 23 percent of Wisconsinites over the age of 65.
* 17 percent of white men and women.
* 55 percent of African American males and 49 percent of African American women.
* 46 percent of Hispanic men and 53 percent of Hispanic women.
* 78 percent of African American males age 18-24 and 66 percent of African American women age 18-24.

What would this add up to with the whole country?

In my state, you have to have photo ID to vote. No voter fraud.

Supreme Court Upholds Voter Identification Law in Indiana - New York Times
I think that just pertains to IN

Voting Rules
Under the Indiana law, by some measures the country's strictest, voters who don't have a photo ID may cast a provisional ballot. To have their votes counted, they must visit a designated government office within 10 days and either bring a photo ID or sign a statement saying they can't afford one.

Bloomberg.com: News

They vote with a provisional ballot, then need go to a govt office within 10 days.

It is not passed nationwide.
