Warren and Gillibrand jumped on their "white leftist female hero platform" last night and claimed the reason that the black community is poor is because of a "history" that the country has yet to make amends for.
The fact is the black community has the highest single motherhood rate, and the highest school dropout rate of all races in the United States.
Those are personal choices, not "institutionalized" racism.
Change my mind.
I doubt I can change you mind, but your explanation for the black community being poor is clearly wrong. The black rate of single motherhood in the 1950s was lower than the white rate is today, yet blacks were poor then. Blacks, on average, are poor compared to others, always, everywhere. The only "solution" to that is something like what Warren and others want: governments that take huge amounts of money from non-blacks and give it to blacks.
Looks like someone else may understand the laughable irony of Democrats preaching "more help" when it is exactly that which has caused the plight of urban black poverty.
If only the white politician had listened to the sage advice of Frederick Douglass when asked what they should do re: black people.
Plight of urban black poverty caused by social programs?
Quite frankly, there are systemic institutionalized factors at play that many people selectively choose to ignore; from 200+ years of institutionalized slavery to approximately 200 years of Jim Crow to ongoing housing discrimination, job discrimination, redlining, infiltration of drugs, easy access to guns, mis-education and outright non-education, Unfair criminal justice system that resulted in the mass incarceration for relatively small quantities of drugs, domestic terrorism whereby entire prosperous towns were burned down, etc. etc.
Cyclical inter-generational poverty, lack of affordable housing, lack of education by some members of society, etc. should be a concern of all people.

They know those institutional things happened....they just believe it did not matter because inferior races would never have reached equality regardless. Don’t call their beliefs racist though. That would just be another example of the overuse of the term.
That is contradictory. If you see blacks as innately as intelligent as whites, genetically, how and why would our brains make inferior decisions and choices? You might not believe that blacks are inferior, but you do believe the brains of blacks to be inferior to whites. That has been a pillar belief if racist for over 400 years...that blacks have smaller brains and intellect.
We know that racism is not about thinking the black body to be inferior...indeed....the opposite is often true (see athletics). Racism has always been about the black mind.
So you are saying the black body is superior to white bodies? That sounds racist to me. If that were true, why aren't football teams, baseball teams, Olympic sports, etc., made up entirely of blacks?

I am not saying anything regarding my personal views about bodies and race. What I am saying is that many whites believe that blacks dominate certain sports BECAUSE OF GENETICS. They don't believe that blacks are dominating because they are WORKING HARDER. Many whites don't mind admitting this because they don't see it as racism....but it does fit the definition of racism if a person believes racial genetics is related to outcomes. That said, one of the foundations of racism is the belief that black peoples brains are inferior to white peoples brains. Thus, some people feel that believing blacks are superior athletes balances out blacks being inferior mentally and therefore don't see blacks, overall as inferior to whites. They feel blacks have things they are naturally good at and whites have things that they are naturally good at. Whites have the mind, in their view, and blacks have the physical.
This is why people say they don't believe that blacks are inferior.....but then say they do believe that blacks make inferior decision and choices in life. That can only happen if your brain is inferior. I mean, why would white brains lead to better choices and decisions than black brains? Ergo, why would black bodies run faster than whites bodies if black bodies were not superior? That is what is going on in peoples subconscious. In other words, if the outcome is superior or inferior, then the engine is superior or inferior, whether the engine is the mind or the body.
And while slavery ended 156 years, anyone who thinks that ended oppression for black people in the USA obviously has chosen to ignore American history during that 156 years.
The Civil Rights Act was passed '64, then came Affirmative Action. I believe, busing allowed black kids to go the the SAME schools as white kids. why didn't THEY graduate, become successful, etc. Get over it.
If we are so RACIST, explain all the Black MILLIONAIRES and successful people we have.
Most cities are run by BLACKS, school administrators are BLACK so don't blame whitey.
"Baltimore City is failing its children"
"In fourth and eighth grade reading, only 13 percent of city students are considered proficient. In fourth grade math, only 14 percent were proficient, and in eighth grade math only 11 percent were proficient"
"Going back to 2011, The Sun reported that nearly 90 percent of Baltimore elementary and middle schools fell short of academic targets on state assessments ("Number of city schools missing academic targets surges," July 14, 2011). Only 15 of the 141 city schools met federally mandated progress goals in reading and math on the Maryland School Assessments. It is apparent that, despite repeated efforts to improve student learning outcomes, city efforts to improve student results have not been effective, even though Baltimore spends $15,564 per pupil,( so it is NOT the money) the fourth highest per student expenditure out of the 100 largest school districts in the nation, according to the U.S. Census Bureau."
Conveniently ignoring decades upon decades of redlining that depraved them of the most important and easiest path to economic prosperity - real estate.

Al that STOPPED in the 60s'
PG county in Md is 63% black. "Subregions 3, 5, and 6 have median household incomes of $100,000 to $110,000 annually, putting them firmly in the upper middle class. Portions of these regions, in particular the Woodmore area west of Bowie, have median incomes in excess of $120,000"
Grattan (left) and Evelyn Betancourt stand in front of their home in Fort Washington, Md., in one of the wealthiest majority-black counties in the United States: Prince George's, just east of Washington, D.C. But the reality, Grattan says, is "that many people here, even though they've lived here for many years, are fighting to save their homes" — the Betancourts among them.

Okay, look at the average IQ in Africa and America by demographic. That is going to be the biggest factor. Those that are intelligent of any race can thrive unless there is something else holding them back such as a lack of motivation.

Most of today's discrimination is based on the present day behavior of those being discriminated against and not with 200 years of this or 400 years of that.
