I’m sorry, it is fear. How many other countries walk around with guns because they are in fear of their lives. And please don’t compare this to being prepared for storms because one has nothing to do with the other.
Israel is one. And it's not fear, it's preservation. I know you would like nothing more than people to be unarmed so it's easier for the corrupt cops or ghetto thugs to kill good Americans, but the constitution says I can bear arms to protect myself against cops and ghetto thugs.
Here is another example/reason to take control of your own self protection-Jeffery Epstein.
Govt police couldnt keep him safe while under suicide/homicide watch in a well lit, secured cell with 24/7 video surveillance.
The incompetence is deafening.
Sit and get robbed and wait 20 minutes for police or blow them away, or get them on the ground dead to rights and neutralize the threat.
i agree with you on this, but again, there are those that dont like or want guns in their homes either, and possibly for good reason, as they dont want their, or others, children playing those guns and accidentally kiiling someone as a result. this is the nice thing about freedom, we have choices to exercise our rights or not.

it isnt about fear, but rather reality, though the fear mongering that the left is using to try and get guns banned doesnt help. it also doesnt help that these mass shooters seem to be looking for a spotlight to get their 15 minutes of fame. like you i can remember a time when these things didnt happen.
you could go to a shopping mall, tavern, school, etc. and not have to deal with some idiot stealing guns and going on a killing spree, as at the time they were limited to post offices(remember the phrase "going postal"?)
the reason other countries dont have people walking around with guns, except the criminals, is because they dont have a second amendment to protects the rights of the people to defend themselves. in those countries, only the elite, or their body guards, are allowed to carry firearms.
and i also agree with you about living a peaceful life. i dont want to shoot anyone, its messy and causes more problems, mostly of a legal nature. personally i would greatly prefer that the world would live in peace with each other, and eliminate war and hate, and that every weapon can be repurposed as instruments of peace.
and i would love to see a world where governments didnt oppress the people, and criminals didnt exist, and people could move freely around the world without needing passports, visa's, etc. but unfortunately that doesnt exist, so again we have to live in reality land not fantasy land.

I am going through the concealed carry permitting process as we speak. Mainly because I am a Realtor who has to open homes up in some tough areas and recently there's been a couple of times where my truck was approached and I didn't feel safe.
The shootings have no bearing on where I shop or how safe I feel at Walmart.
Being prepared and responsible for your own safety is a good thing in my book.
Do you think a numbskull with a chip on his shoulder is more likely or less likely to start playing shoot-em-up if he knows everyone around him is carrying a weapon? I don't see it as all that different from several hundred years ago when men often carried rapiers (or other types of swords)... and were less likely to be attacked by scumbags. A creep is less likely to attack an armed individual than he is an unarmed individual. Creeps go for the weak and defenseless. And actually a non-concealed carry firearm would probably be more effective at discouraging creeps than concealed.

Someone posted the stat yesterday that 92% of mass shootings have been in "gun free" zones. I am not surprised. Just wish I knew where they found it.
when out of control gun ownership leads to fears that have a big enough impact on the rest of the market economy...just watch the big corporations band together and reduce the NRA to a whimper....certainly a "different"approach but truly the American way...money talks loudest!
Oh just stop with the comparisons already. The countries you want us to emulate are the size of one of our states. The United States was unique at its founding and, despite all the efforts of the socialists on the left, it remains unique. Do we have some problems? Yep, we do. Mainly that the illogical leftists refuse to look for actual solutions and wants big brother government to tuck us into bed every night all safe and sound.
Guns are not the problem. It’s more difficult to purchase a firearm than at any time in American history. If the proliferation of firearms were the issue, none of us would be here because our ancestors would have killed each other off. The issue lies in the way we are (not) raising our children to be decent human beings that have any regard for life.
Our society glorifies violence. We normalize it. We teach our kids to fantasize about it. Half of our population defended ADULTS who had crying tantrums after their goddess lost the election that she, in their minds, had such a lock on that many of them didn’t even vote. Adults. Crying. Over a freaking popularity contest, and make no mistake that a popularity contest is exactly what 2016 was. That was not a Presidential election, because neither of the only two candidates that we were allowed to pick from were even in the neighborhood of Presidential. It’s like the two parties dared each other to nominate the biggest ******* they could find and both said, “Okay!!” with a big Mentos thumbs-up and a cheesy grin. The main topic of discussion in society is whether or not Trump is an *******. For two years, that’s been the discussion. Funny thing is, everyone knows that he is. It’s just a question of whether the right ******* won that divides the country.
That’s the example of adulthood that our children get, and it’s been the example for about 4 presidents. No wonder the ones who can’t retain their sanity don’t care that they die. It’s amazing that anyone under 30 didn’t try to crawl back into the womb about 2 minutes after they were born.
But yeah, go ahead and keep thinking guns are the problem.
Of course guns are the problem. Not the ONLY problem - love or violence and lack of social capital are big problems as well. But it's completely stupid that we as a nation allow easy access to weapons of war.
Maybe we should stop with the "America is the best" bull**** and learn something from the other developed, democratic nations that do this far better than us.
