I had sustained winds of 40mph for 20 HOURS yesterday with gusts to 70mph. Absolutely miserable. So far this morning it's sunny and pleasant, 45 degrees out and NO wind. Going trout fishing with my brand new $1 senior fishing license.
I do too and we've had LOTS of it lately. It'll be this way till about June. I always want to know why we can't have wind in August when we really need it!
I am 61, retired and bored to death. Want some suggestions on what to do with myself. Should this go in here or under the retirement posts?
I think life is so interesting I cannot understand how people complain of boredom. Surely there are activities, hobbies, organizations out there ...
If I was living in southwestern Florida I would perhaps take up golf or fishing or some other year round recreational activity. Creative? Why not take a class and learn to paint, sculpt, or ceramics? I would join some sort of organization or club.
Oh, Clark Park, I am so envious of your ability to do all that! I am finally able to walk a block & back & am so thankful I can finally do that.
I am not retired yet, but I may be retiring in just one year from now, but more than likely the spring of 2018 or 2019.
In anticipation of my retirement I've am cultivating two hobbies:
#1 LAPIDARY -the art and craft of cutting and polishing gem stones. I've already took the beginning classes. This summer I hope to begin the intermediate classes.
#2 PAINTING - when I was young, especially in High School, I was interested in art. I exhibited in a couple of shows.I also collect art.
#3 LOCAL HISTORY - for the past six or seven years I have been serving on the Board of Governors of the local historical society. I am the guy that gives walking tours of the Victorian neighborhoods of West Philly.
For the past few years I joined a "Men's 55+" club, which is mostly a social group but partly a support and counseling group focusing on issues of aging and retirement. After our "rap session" most of go to a local restaurant for lunch.
It's that time already, we are heading back to NY soon. It's been 85 and sunshine in FL and the forecast in NY is a high of 61 and rain for four days. I'm sure there's something positive about that, I just haven't thought of it yet. I've been spring cleaning inside and out for the past couple of weeks and get to do it all over in NY; shades of the Groundhog Day Movie, one of these days I'll get it right.
We are coming back in early July this year to get a good taste of summer in FL before we sell the house in NY and DH has more work obligations in August down here, so I'm coming back too. I don't expect any surprises, it's a wall of heat and humidity when we come in the first of September and through October, I'll get to experience another two months of the same. There's good reasons for all the trees in parking lots here, under the shade is where to park.
I'm ready for a roadtrip, the drive through the hills/mountains along I81 in Virginia is my favorite part and traveling with pets is my least favorite. I have a couple of Auduble books to listen to, we'll probably get only one done since we still like to talk with each other.
We picked a point midway to stay overnight that has a nice Indian restaurant nearby, good food helps.
