Travel Safely...
I plan on Quartzsite as being my winter spot. Last year was not typical because we had to stay away from each other but now that people are gathering again I expect there will be fire rings to gather around, pot lucks to go to and friends to meet. Especially since I joined the meet at Q group. Really looking forward to meeting the people I've been corresponding with all summer.

Happy Thanksgiving! Will you try to find a turkey meal somewhere today on your route?

I am not big into holidays, it's just my husband and I (and the rescue dogs) but I will cook a small turkey breast and some of the traditional "fixings". Mainly it's just an excuse/opportunity to eat something different from our routine meals.

Travel safe!

Ummm, how a bean and cheese burrito and fruit cup instead? And coffee, lots of coffee.

Another change of plans. I decided to go to El Paso and am taking I-20 to I-10 I'm halfway there. If I have to stop sooner I will, either at a rest stop or a Loves.

Well, stopped for the night. I can't believe I only drove 350 miles. It felt much longer. Still 100miles from El Paso.
Bought Marigold a plush, soft blanket and she loves it! Also bought a chicken sandwich. I know it doesn't count as turkey, but It's close.

So why did I change plans? Because I was the interstate for I-20 and knew it connected with I-10, which leads me to Quartzsite and I had enough of getting lost.

Happy Thanksgiving to All & your loved ones. Be Safe, Happy & Healthy the coming New Year.

Years ago, we stopped in El Paso for a meal, when we were traveling from Fort Hamilton New York to Fort Huachuca, Arizona. It was quite a ride...

Wow, that was a long drive. Since I'm only about 100 miles from El Paso I'll just be traveling through. I'm going to try make it to Sierra Vista. I haven't checked how far it is but I'm getting anxious to get to Quartzsite. It's only 300 miles so should be doable.

I'll call my mechanic and see if he can fit me in Saturday, if not I'll start for Quartzsite because I'm not going to stay in the Walmart parking lot until Monday. Although I didn't need a mechanic there last year, I'm sure I won't have a problem finding one.

When I leave there in the spring I plan on going through Oregon, Washington and then head back to Minnesota, so I will need an oil change before then.

I feel like I've already lost so much time because of the operation and recuperating time from that. I just want to get there, pick out my spot and set up camp.

I want to feel the warmth before it gets cold. It does get cold in Quartzsite during the winter, but it's not for that long and warms back up. was just have to remember how cold I was in Minnesota and know it doesn't last long.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I just enjoyed traveling and seeing the beauty of the mountains. I didn't realize they were in Texas, but boy, they are awesome. I never thought I would love mountains as much as I do. So majestic.

Dad was career Army. Usually we lived in one fort for about two years, then moved to the next fort we had orders to. I enjoyed growing up that way. I got to see & explore much beauty across our USA. I made a lot of friends in Army families.
We always drove our station wagon to the next fort we would live on in the housing area. All our household goods would be moved by Allied Van Lines/Mayflower/etc.

We never did go to Quartzsite, but Avi Casino used to have a pretty big Jewelry & precious gems show folks were attracted to. We spent a few winters around Bullhead City/ Fort Mohave/ Lake Havasu/etc
In Dec, Jan it got down to around 30F & it was a dang cold wind. brrrr.

I've always loved the mountains too. We lived on the side of our forested mountain with a year around creek & bass pond, 6 lustrum...

Be Safe.

That must have been fascinating. What a neat way to grow up.

I'd never even given a thought to Arizona until I fell three times in the snow and decided I had enough of Minnesota. I started researching warm places to live and tiny homes. Everything seemed so expensive and it was scary to me and I didn't know anyone. Then I was invited to visit Sierra Vista by a woman I'd met via the internet and decided to go there. I fell in love with the mountains and the beautiful sunsets and weather so I decided to move there.

I still loved Arizona but not so much Sierra Vista. Frankly I was bored. I still couldn't walk well and was spending my time researching different places. Contemplated Tennessee a lot but everyone convinced me it would be bad for my allergies so I kept searching

I somehow came across Cheaprvliving and almost went to the RTR but didn't because I didn't know what I'd do with Marigold. Sheesh, if I would have known she'd like it, I would have taken her with. But I didn't think that was possible. I planned on going the next year.

Then covid hit, my lease was up, and family asked me to come home. So I did, with the condition that I was not going to spend another winter in Minnesota.

In the meantime I saw a video on a small car build. I realized I could do that and started buying the recommended items to buy and paid my nephew to put in a platform. I'd seen a lot of videos on Quartzsite and decided to try it.

The rest is history.

I'm so glad all this happened. I've grown so much, gotten over my fear of traveling and, outside of the operation and the consequences of that, I truly am enjoying my life.

I'll continue to go back to Minnesota for the summer but last spring I was so envious of the groups who continued to travel together that I'm not sure how long I'll keep doing that. We'll see.

I tried so hard to make it to Sierra Vista but am still 2 hours away and the wind is kicking my butt. Really, really strong wind. So I asked if I could stay and they said yes.

So thankful. I've been driving since first light and had to keep slowing down because I was fighting the wind. I'll start out early again tomorrow morning.

I almost wish I could have a glass of wine but don't drink while traveling so I can't. I'm going to have one when I get settled at Quartzsite though.

Eeek, the wind sounds scary. How does Marigold handle it?

I wish you a nice, quiet, calm night and a good day back on the road tomorrow!
