Wonderful story. I think it's the animals that require trusting us that we become the closest to.

Looks like the current temp in Fergus Falls is 46 and Quartzsite is 74. Quite a difference

Yup, i bet it feels like it's Spring there.

Meo, if you ever get to hankering to do some fishin' while your still in AZ, Alamo Lake is about 77 miles from Quartzsite. There is still supposed to be some good bass & crappie fishing, probably catfish, also.

Thanks Hawk. I bookmarked it in case I get the hankering. I didn't bring fishing gear though. I'm crammed in here as is.

I moved from my original spot, went further down by the water and garbage, also has larger bushes for Marigold to meander in. After I set up my tent a neighbor came over and showed me a spot a little further in, on the other side of the bushes that was better because it was a bit further away from the water spout and in between two other camps. I was too tired to take down the tent but will move there this morning.

He said people come early in the morning to fill up their water and it's less noisy where they are. It makes sense, besides being a little more secluded.

I still don't have quite the energy to do a lot. Still healing from the operation so have to take things a little easy. But it will be good to move closer to people who have already proved they are friendly.

While setting up the tent, I was unable to find the good tent spikes I bought last year. I swear I came across them every time I turned around while traveling and now can't find them so have to go buy some more, which is okay since I need them for the shower tent anyway.

The spikes that came with the tent are useless in Quartzsite wind.

So, as soon as they open I'll be off to buy stakes and more water and coffee, because I didn't bring a water jug since they are a dime a dozen and I figured I'd buy some here. Good thinking but I didn't do that yesterday and it's hard to make coffee without water.

Anxious to get all set up and get stuff out of the car and into the tents. Since I'm moving I quit taking things out and still slept sitting up last night, as I have for the entire trip. That's another reason I chose the LTVA rather than boondocking because I can set up camp for the duration and if boondocking you have to move every 14 days.

Meo, I know that Marigold likes to stay close to you, but is she always in your sight (e.g. when she's meandering through bushes)? I would be worried about a sudden loud noise scaring her and making her run away in a panic. I know how devastating that would be for BOTH of you.

I know you know her very, very well at this point so probably it's not an issue?

Also, I'd wager there are coyotes on the prowl... especially in the early morning. Be cautious!

I'm going to force her to use the leash. Plus, I will set up her tent next to the door. She came. From an Arizona shelter and I think she's aware of coyotes. Except for the one time last year when she escaped and got the mouse, I keep her in from dusk to dawn.

She did find last year. The camp officials were surprised at how she stayed by the car at all times.

Nearby Parker Dam had a great BLM campground 20+ yrs ago. Even had a rough golf course, wild burros.... My mom wintered there a few years while keeping econo house boat (<$2000) moored nearby.
