So people would take the hot desert of AZ over Fla (Florida has the beaches though to cool off)?
Well, Arizona is stunning geographically. It has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the US. From Sedona to the Grand Canyon, to the Saguaro National Park to the Painted Desert, it's incredibly geographically diverse.
Florida has some beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters, but is mostly flat as a pancake across the state, with lakes, rivers, swamps and marshes.
The heat in Arizona (for me) is much more comfortable than Florida's sticky hot humidity. Plus Tucson and Phoenix weather in winter is nearly perfect: highs in the 60s/70s with lows in the 40s/50s, and sunny.
I get why people prefer Arizona--I do too, over Florida.

In fairness, Arizona does have tall mountains (12K ft +) with alpine forests that are snowcapped in the winter for skiing, and provide a place to cool off in summer. I’ve had countless friends from Phoenix over the years and many talked about their family’s cabin in Flagstaff that was 2 hours from their house, and 20-30 degrees cooler.
Personally I didn’t find the beach much relief in the summer while in Florida. On a trip to Disneyworld several years back I took a few hours to go surfing in Cocoa Beach. I was literally sweating just sitting on my board in the ocean, and after paddling/catching/riding the wave (if you want to call them that) I couldn’t cool down to save my life. The mountains in Arizona will he far more pleasant during the summer than anywhere in Florida, including the beaches. And don’t forget the skiing in winter.
I did vote for Florida though, although I’m rethinking that one? Is it too late to change my vote?
