That only American citizens elect our president. What the rest of the world thinks during the election does not impact the outcome. Bernie can be well thought of across the globe as a "centrist," but those people can't vote. (Well, unless the Russians are involved, like last time.)

The US shares a planet with 194 other countries (last I checked), and thus it's perfectly reasonable to compare where its citizens stand on the political spectrum with people in other parts of the world.
