Beto is center left. If you want the Independent vote, you've got to nominate a more moderate Democrat. Otherwise, we'll hold our noses and vote for trump.

I’m an Independent and I will be voting Democrat in 2020 and while I’m not sold on Beto I wouldn’t call him Center-Left

So Pete was in Rock Hill today. Beta was there earlier in the week.

The crowd for Pete was far far larger than the one for "beh toe".

But how many support Beto's votes in Congress? You claim its a sizable percentage of the Dem electorate who want one of the most pro-Trump voting records, serving the rich and the powerful at the expense of the people. I dont think so. There is nothing "far leftist" with standing up for the people. In fact, polls after polls show that the real centrist position is the position Bernie Sanders has on the issues.

So doing the bidding of a tiny rich minority at the expense of ordinary Americans is "centrist" and "moderate"? I dont get it. Look at his donors and his pro-Trump voting record. If you want a republican, vote for the real thing, not a republican light.

He sided with Republicans in favor of watering down the so-called Volcker Rule, the federal regulation that prohibits banks from treating customer deposits like casino chips. He has also voted for legislation designed to eliminate financial and privacy-related disclosure requirements, for lightening the audit burden imposed on corporations, for deregulating stock exchanges and frequent trading, and for increasing the amount of debt holding companies are allowed to take on. At the end of September 2018, he was going whole-hog behind another package of Republican tax cuts described by the Center for American Progress (whose president, Neera Tanden, has endorsed O'Rourke") as a "scam."

Is this something you demand that your candidate supports or otherwise you'll vote for Trump? I think you are a very small minority of the Democrats. Polls of dems show overwhelming opposition to those types of policies.

If the Democrats want to re-take the WH in 2020, they'd better think twice about nominating a far left candidate. Would you prefer four more years of Trump or a centrist Democrat? Harris, Sanders, Bettigieu, Warren, etc.. cannot get enough of the Independent vote to beat Trump. Also, many centist Democrats may just stay home. Time to get real..

My first response when I read the thread title was, "who?". Zero name recognition. In a field with a lot of known names, that alone dooms his candidacy.

But people with no name recognition don't run for president thinking they can win. The run hoping to raise their profile for the next, more realistic run.

True. But still a long time to go. Getting into the debates was huge for him.

Completely agree. For a whole host of reasons, this guy doesn't stand even a remote chance, IMO..

Not true. At this time in 2007, no one knew who Barack Obama was.

Name recognition is seldom the most winning factor this early in a campaign season. This is the time in a campaign when a candidate has to concentrate on finding donors much more than getting known to the voters.

Without the money, the voters will never get the chance to know who most of the candidates are.
Most of them won't raise enough cash to last out the campaign.
