A load of hot air: Experts say Biden's offer to replace Europe's gas supplies if Putin turns off the taps 'is just not physically possible' - because 'there's not enough gas out there'
Experts are concerned that President Joe Biden's plan to shore up Europe's supply of natural gas if Vladimir Putin cuts off supplies won't work
It's unclear how other nations and companies can make up the shortfall
Qatar, the world's third-largest producer of natural gas, is operating at capacity and has to meet its contracts with Asian customers
White House downplayed concerns, saying they are looking at range of options
White House also argues Putin won't cut off the revenue stream Russia gets from natural gas at a time the industry is seeing record profits
Compounding the problem: European gas reserves are at record lows
The Biden administration is preparing contingency plans in case Russia cuts off its energy exports to Europe in the event of an invasion of the Ukraine
U.S. is working with energy producers in Middle East, Asia and North Africa to ensure Europe has enough supplies in case Russia cuts off availability
European allies are worried that Putin would cut off their supply chain in retalation for any economic sanctions the U.S. has vowed
U.S. promising harsh sanctions if Russian invades Ukraine
'The gradualism of the past is out. And this time, we'll start at the top of the escalation ladder and stay there,' a senior administration official said
With Ukraine I believe the West and US has hastened the problems. Ukraine after the fall of the Soviet Union should have followed Finland example and adapt a neutral foreign policy like Finland. It worked very well for Finland, instead of wanting to be part of NATO.
It did work well for Finland - Finland is the third most prosperous country in the world.
Ukraine needs a competent and sane government, they need to cut out the rampant corruption
in all levels of government and industry.
They need to become a bridge, not a wall.
Currently it can't get much worse for their economy. I think the people have their own means of making it to a certain extent. They know how to survive just about anything.
Russia more corrupt than the USA? IDK. The USA government lied to the American people about progress in Middle East for twenty years. It spite all the happy talk about Afghanistan and the training of the Afghan army, the country fell in five (5) days.
$5.8 trillion dollar and 13 dead soldiers was a pretty high cost for Potemkin setup to fool the American population.
There is so much bad press about Russia, it's hard to know what is going on. It's hard to know what is going on in the USA as well.

Poland gets so much bad press for its anti-immigrant stance - but . . . .
Quote:
While Poland’s rightwing populist government has rejected resettlement quotas for refugees from Syria and other conflict zones, the country has quietly accepted what may amount to the largest migration into a European country in recent years. There are about 400,000 Ukrainians on proper contracts but many more who work in the parallel economy or are short-term, seasonal labourers.
Corruption in Ukraine is inevitable regardless of whether a pro-Western or pro-Russian government is in place.
It didn't quite speak well for corruption when Trump put his incompetent relatives (Ivanka and Kushner) on the top positions, nor when Biden installed his son in Ukraine, does it? America blaming others in corruption is a dead game, it's not working in the age when we all have access to information, period.
There is a meeting in Paris on Wednesday, between the countries France, Germany, Ukraine, Russia. The goal is to de-escalate, and try to defuse this. That is the responsible thing to do. Who doesn't want peace?
Notice: 1. The US and UK are excluded. 2. Some of the more radical Ukrainians condemn this meeting.
It is the US, UK, and radical Ukrainians who want war.
If it's just some fear of Russian invasion as claimed by the US, that can be resolved with mutual agreements to pull back. It is a responsibility to humanity to at least try. But there are people who do not want peace.
Finland economy at the end of WW2 was terrible. In addition they had to pay compensation to the Soviet Union as they were at war with them during WW2. In addition they lost territory to them as well. A Finland that guaranteed neutrality and non-involvement in alliances against USSR was exactly what the USSR wanted. The USSR would have done the same vis-a-vis Poland and Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria but NATO put a stop to that.
