It reminds me of the scene in Einsenstein's "October revolution" of the Latvian female unit sole defender of the Winter Palace in front of the Bolshewist horde. The Russians have a tradition of all-female units which makes militarily much more sense than the Western model : 1 female soldier/ 3 males (one gay among the males) to defend her.

Re: 'Russia needs to make best of it and invade...'

Well that would be madness. But all in all perhaps par for the course. If the fighting is increasing Rossiya is now more involved than ever in her neighbor's affairs. .......deeply. In a few days Or weeks perhaps we'll see a 'border' incident that will undoubtedly indubitably influence Mr. Putin to put in troops. Heck Crimea went without a fight. But he will push Ukraine into a war to fight for the 'East' or else lose it. He's not a dope. God help everyone in the East.

And note - this "tradition" comes in place, only when the general population goes up in arms joining regular army, when they sense that their country is under attack and in imminent danger. Other than that, women don't join the army to "participate in combats," in order to compete with men for "ranks and salaries."

Perhaps you're right. But hard to say, it's pretty common type of face Slavic women.

Ukrainian media to broadcast several stories about the retreat of the Ukrainian army and large losses. Surprising to see it.
