I didn't hear that Putin threatens to turn off the gas. I only heard about economical sanctions against Putin and he can turn off the gas in return. There is nothing about "dislilked" countries at all.
And Putin can turn off the gas to a country which don't pay its bills either. Ukraine has debts for the gas everytime.

What does the US and EU have to gain from Ukraine? The answer is - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

So remove your tin foil hats and stop this conspiracy madness.

Putin said he will raise the price of gas to Ukraine and also threatened the same to Greece on Monday due to the Ukraine Navy flagship being in the Greek port of Souda. That's all he does, threaten to raise the price of gas or cut it off completely. His number 1 threat.

e.g. here:

Putin vs. Obama: Facing off over facts in Ukraine - CNN.com

> A defiant Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that masked gunmen
> are fueling anarchy in Ukraine. He decried what he called an illegitimate government
> that illegally seized power in a coup with U.S. backing, arguing that his country has
> a right to use military force.

afaik, there is no law that regulates this specific situation.
So what is "right" here ? just somehow subjective, morally or also legally ?

also Churkin at UNO 2 days ago

or:
> Putin insisted Russia has the right to use “all means’’ to protect its citizens in Ukraine

or:
> President Putin said he was pulling back from the brink of war but reserved the
> right to use force if Russians in the Ukraine were threatened.

or:
> We reserve the right to use all available means. And we believe that this is fully legitimate.
> This is a last resort

I've also heard, there are numerous (Russian speaking) groups of people in Kiev and all around the Ukraine playing roles of "Ukrainian nationalists".

Is it true, or is it just "Western propaganda"?

No, he said something different. Ukraine has a special discount price on gas and since Ukraine didn't pay the gas bills - there is no more discount price for them. It's not a raising price.
