300 arrests seem to be quite plausible.
Yes, thank you. This is not good, of course.

Seriously however, the Odessa resident claim really concerns me. Not only would taking Odessa from Ukraine leave Ukraine landlocked without a major port (assuming Crimea was also lost), it would put Russian armies right next door to Romania and Moldova.

Hopefully things can be worked out diplomatically before that.

They can give a loan under certain conditions. It is also possible it was revenge for Syria, where Russia has shown principled position.

Yes perhaps. As everybody knows the West and Russia had that dance together called 'detente'. You know it looks like it just hasn't worked out well for Putin in the past decade. More and more there's strife in the former Republics. Eastern Europe was relatively calm compared to the 50'a and 60's and now we see these 'democratic' movements('fascist' and and 'Nazi-like' in Russian eyes) popping up.

No doubt he's fed up. There has been absolutely nothing going on with Syria and Iran in terms of solutions. Diplomacy is effectively not working at all. And last but not least he's tired to hear of the 'free society' bit espoused by the United States in foreign policy issues. With Crimea he's saying ok here's the dance. I lead and let the West and Europe follow.

Taking away the discount is raising the price.

Why Russia must make allowances for Ukraine? Every winter, until it was Yanukovich, they had the revolution, and all only, that would not pay for gas.

Sorry, but this is a demagogy... Stoping the discount and raising price are different things.
