Exactly. .01% of CA's electricity comes from coal and most vehicles on the road are gasoline:
That's even without considering transportation of energy.
Electricity generation in California is 50.2% natural-gas. And that percentage will increase as the powergrid runs at near full power for longer time periods of the day. Then as more and more electric-vehicles charge from the powergrid, the powegrid will run at near full power for longer time periods of the day
.
If all the cars are changed to EVs, there will be a problem.
And where does the electricity come from? It's not generated out of thin air.
Nonetheless, the powers that be have clearly decided the future is EVs. My thoughts are now oriented towards how to max the resale potential of my gas car by selling it sooner rather than later and getting an EV. Will demand for used gas cars crash?
Battery-powered electric-vehicles fail as a solution to carbon-release because they draw on the electricity powergrid and then have attributable carbon-release.
In fact as more and more electric-vehicles draw on the powergrid then the powergrid will run at near full power for longer time periods of the day. And as the powergrid runs at near full power for longer time periods of the day, then the percentage of green-energy in the powergrid will decrease.
The only way for electric-vehicles to be a solution to carbon-release is with a maximum weight limit on non-commercial vehicles
.
I have several family members with EVs. All of them charge at home at night when electricity demand is low. I'm sure that is what most will do.

Anyway, if we did away with the CAFE standards, the climbing CO2 is what you should expect.
Adapt to the current situation or the situation will steamroll you over. The carbon-powered car had its day. It's now time to give it a respectful retirement.
Better yet, start adopting carbon negative practices like planting trees, if you're in a space where that's possible. And support public mass transit in your communities (I do).
You'll be far less mobile after 2035, and likely hungrier too if they succeed in banning diesel trucks. The great American road trip will be dead.
Of course, you're going to be cold much sooner than that...this winter most likely as natural gas is over $9 a therm right now ($3 a therm this time last year).
Enjoy the great reset folks. They were NOT kidding when they said you'll own nothing and be happy (I'm guessing fully legalized marijuana for pacification purposes).
Car manufactures follow California emmision standards. Manufactures are not going to make a Texas only ICE version. No more coal rolling with your pickups.
