There must be nearly 3 feet here in Wallingford, not seeing any official total and can't really get out of my house right now to check. Absolutely nuts. Saw some new numbers here, too:

Just measured 31 inches on my deck right across, in Glastonbury. that is not with any drifting. This is epic. I have a pickup truck with 4x4 with a 3 inch lift and this is something I wouldn't even attempt to travel with that underneath me...and I have gotten through 8 ct winters with it without ever getting stuck. I have no clue where the plows are going to put all this stuff, maybe dump it in the ct river?

How tall is a standard front door, on a front stoop rise of approximately 2 feet?

My neighbor's front door is covered juuuuust about 2/3 of the way up. So if a door is 8 feet, and the stoop is 2 feet, then the snow drift is around 7 feet high. My car is just a bump in the snow at the moment. With hubby's pickup truck you can tell that it was actually a truck before the storm started.

I moved the shovel from the right to the left outside the back door before I went to bed last night; otherwise we wouldn't have been able to reach it when we got up this morning. Smart AnonChick! Not that it matters, we can't shovel the BACK right now anyway. We'll have to dig our way out the front (thus, tracking the snowy shovel through the house), and dig a tunnel around the side of the house to the back, and then to the side door of the detatched garage. I have no idea if a snowblower can even DO this, when its chimney is shorter than the height of the snow it's trying to blow.

The good news: our mailbox is intact, and we have TWO metal-reinforced plastic shovels, AND a roof rake from the Year of the Deadly Roof Destructions.

I hope to God this stuff doesn't melt fast. For once, I don't want any real warm days to come soon or we are going to have major major flooding.

wow, you guys got buried....

Be safe and use common sense.. And as someone said upthread, a quick melt is bad due to serious flooding concerns...

Good luck from NJ...
