Tonight was supposed to be shrimp etouffe for what DH calls my real birthday dinner, but our local Cajun restaurant never answers the phone for either reservations or takeout. So, DH and I went to our local diner, one of my favs anyway. DH had a cup of navy bean soup. We both had the chopped steak with a brown onion-mushroom gravy, I had mashed potatoes, DH had fries, salad, applesauce, and mixed veggies. Dessert is another favorite for me, rice pudding, which I brought home and will make lemon whipped cream.

There was so much hamburger leftover that Darcy and Happy will be eating it for days.

It looks like I will be learning to make shrimp etouffe.

We are grilling some pork loin chops on the grill. We will have macaroni salad and a green salad also. Chased with some Sierra Nevada Ale.

More food from the Hawaiian place I went to earlier today. This time I had island-style fried chicken with rice and steamed broccoli. Iced tea to drink.

My plan right now is to try using shrimp instead of scallops in my escalloped scallops recipe (heavy cream, mayonnaise, white wine and tarragon). Also some rice for DH and salads.
