AZ D B: It's so exciting to have your very own place isn't it !!!! You can decorate and paint and have a ball! I am so happy for you. This is a very good thing.
Most of them started out by visiting other friends out there, over a couple of winters. Liking the area and finding a heck-of-a-deal. Getting away from the gray 60 degree weather and heading for sunshine and 80 degrees. Getting away from the city and traffic. None of them golf and none of them are filthy rich Some love the desert area but can't stand it in the summer, so they live there when they can in the winter months.
One friend told me, "Why not? I want to, so I will."
Thanks for the response. I was just curious because it seemed a little odd to me. That last line is hard to argue with, of course.
And for the sake of the non-Californians who may be reading this, our "gray 60 degree weather" within 40 or so miles of the coast almost never lasts more than four or five days in a row, and then we have the sunshine again. More sunny days than cloudy days during an average winter, with daytime highs NEVER below 50 degrees; we've been enjoying daytime temps in the 80's for several days now. So you can see why I found the concept a bit odd.
Just to be clear, I am not opposed to that kind of "snow-birding" (having a second house only a hundred or so miles away) - those doing it are not harming anyone so more power to them. But I reserve my right to find it odd.

Many people here have second homes in northern MN - 2-3 hrs away. This has never been a goal of mine since the last thing I want is 2 homes to take care of. Retiring in N MN is absolutely not even on my long list.
I hope so too. So far it's all been smooth as silk. I looked at the house onWed., made an offer on Fri. and accepted the counteroffer today. So five days? Also my mortgage lender and my realtor know my circumstances here and are working to get it done ASAP. My realtor knows my family for years, knew my mom really well and goes to our church. So, yes, I'm hoping it goes through smoothly and quickly. Inspection has to be done within 10 days...it's being done tomorrow! My (good) brother is doing it for me and he's well qualified.
I guess I'll soon be hanging out in the 'house' forums! lol
Woo Hoo!
Big Congrats to you! I will look forward to hearing more as things progress!
Really cute house! What kind of tree is that out front? I can imagine your landscaping touch.
I love it! I think that tree is a Mulberry. Messy things but at least I don't have to park under it! lol I am, of course, already planning some things for the front of the house. The back can wait.
Oh, it has a tin roof! That's on my list
That laundry room is HUGE.
You'll have the yard whipped into shape in no time. Maybe you can get discounts on stuff at work, LOL
I love a tin roof. They don't wear out like composition stuff. That laundry room IS huge, isn't it? Thinking it could be some type of multipurpose area but there's so much room in the rest of the house I just don't know. lol And yes, discounts at work! All the yard and garden stuff is coming in now so I'm looking forward to checking it all out. I spend a lot there every year just for my garden here but NOW it's all for me!
Now I'm thinking...work part time at Home Depot for the discounts. lolol

It looks great to me, and what a great price. And it's all yours.
When you own your home you own your life. I'd sure rather work and own than be retired and rent.
I actually got it for a lot less than list price. I offered them $84,900 and they came back at $86,900 so I jumped on it. Now, of course I'm wondering if I could have offered less! lol The $86,900 was my limit so it worked out.
I've owned several homes and have missed being able to do what I want so this is great. And yes, I'd rather work and own than rent, retired or not.
