How about some love seats and single chairs? Those that want to sit next to each other can still do so.
imo love seats are even more awkward and self-conscious than sofas for the sitters. You have to turn your head to the left or right to converse. I'm sticking to the chairs in a circle idea.
Those are actually great under a window to use as a "cat shelf"; they love to look outside, and you can store the padding/cushions/blankets/cat toys inside when company comes.
Yes, my kitties do like to sit on the cedar chest and look out the window. But it's taking up too much room. I can give them something smaller.

When our family gets together, we all just pile on the couches and *** away. No self conscious turning of heads, that I've noticed. But then, maybe we don't converse, lots of loud talkers!!

I have a leather loveseat that reclines and has footrests dh wanted it, I hate it. These leather couches and chairs are usually way too big for a person and require piles of pillows behind your back. Now dh is hating this loveseat too. You sink way down in it too and there's no support. (with the exception of that one pictured a few posts back--that looked comfortable.) One thing about the leather: it stays clean and dust free AND pets don't rip it.
I guess as long as we have this loveseat, we may as well take it when we move. For chairs too, we are finding that as we get older we want something with more support. In a hotel we stayed at they had barrel? chairs and we were both saying how comfortable they were. Maybe that's another purchase. Meanwhile I still need to get rid of the cedar chest.
Met with a couple of movers and got estimates this week. Although expensive not as bad as I thought. Set my move date for April 25th. If I continue to cull through the closets I can reduce it more. 5 more bags for Goodwill.
This is a great chair. Can you tell me the price (it's not on their site). I just may order a pair. Thanks (couldn't rep you again)
We got them on sale (call and see if sale is still going on) for a tad under $600 per chair.
