We've had cats taken by hawks, a sight I'm glad I never was subject to. In Arizona, it's coyotes. You could hear them howling but I seldom saw them. Cats kill mice and small creatures. It's all a cycle of life.

There used to be wolves here and I suppose there still is, but I haven't heard any stories of them for a long time. Civilization may have come too close, I don't know.

I worried about Marigold at times but she always stayed close to the car. Here, she stays close to the trailer. She goes in and out freely, just as she did in the car, but she stays close. Of course, she's a big cat, not a kitten which are the ones usually taken here.

I suppose that's why the farmers here, and I suppose everywhere, have so many barn cats. They sometimes just disappear but you need them for rodent control.
I've only seen coyote twice over the years, here at the top of my driveway. They looked around smelled a bit (probably smelled my dogs) turned around, went down the driveway, never to be seen again.
My dogs & cats roam around the 80 acres here/playing/exploring/hunting. I don't think they have left the property since years ago before they were neutered/spayed.

Here, our first two mountain cats (a mama cat & a female kitten) came out of the forest, hung around on the deck/porch for a while. I fed them. They decided to stay...

We have been lucky, never have lost a cat or dog here to a predator in 30 years. My dogs are large, a rottie/lab mix & two German Shepherds. They are all very loving.

It's going to be hot for at least this week, in the 90's supposedly cooling down by Thursday. Because I'm in amongst the trees and fairly close to the lake it's quite tolerable, since I get the lake breezes. I feel for the town folks though as this is so unusual for Minnesota. The weather has been so very different this year for the entire country it seems.

Yesterday and this morning, at least, the wind has kept things fairly cool and then by the middle of the night you need a blanket. As much as I miss Arizona I am very glad I'm here and not there. I do look forward to traveling there again though in the fall.
In the heat of summer, there are many dragonflies/bull frogs/tree frogs (ribbeting) /crawdads in/around my pond. On my deck i have 2 hummingbird feeders. Quite a few beautiful hummers come around, (usually fighting each other for the nectar) I love them all. They give me a lot of entertainment.

At night there are guite a few friendly bats around. They like to eat mosquitoes, too.
You can see billions of stars in the night sky, which at times look like a cloud of stars. I see several shooting stars most nights when i'm gazing. + UFO's

One thing i miss from some of the southern states we were stationed at (US ARMY) are the fireflies in Fort Jackson/Columbia, South Carolina, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. They were so fun to watch when we were youngsters.

A week or two ago, it was in the 90's-100 here (HOT),now it's in the 60-70 range. I like it, more comfortable.o

Over the years we have enjoyed spending time in AZ outside of Laughlin (AVI Casino). We had lots of fun at the casino/ exploring the area/ fishing for Striped Bass in the Colorado River. There is a nice beach area/marina/pools.

Sounds like a wonderful piece of property, a slice of heaven. I love star gazing, both here and in Arizona.

It's supposed to get to the 80s on Thursday but then into the 90's for a few days again. Nights are in the 50's and along with the wind, it keeps things cooled down for quite awhile. Hopefully it won't be had for too long because I really don't like air conditioning much, but will use it if I have to. There is air conditioning in the trailer, I just don't like using it.

I'm funny that way I guess.

I plan on stopping in Laughlin on my way back. I'll have to check out that casino area.

One of the things i love here is there isn't much wind. The mountains protect our Shangri-La. When i would fish in the San Joaquin Valley, CA & the Colorado River, the wind would blow me away.

I just use floor fans mostly here. It feels more comfortable to me (not freezing). When it's real HOT, i put a floor fan out on the deck in the shade.

Avi was a lot of Fun for us. We got some Royal Flush' playing video poker. It's been about 10 years since we were there.

Thunder and lightning and finally, the rain. I love these types of storms with the lightning preceding the rain.

Didn't like closing the windows, but love hearing the rain on the roof. And that thunder! Awesome.

meo, when you set out this fall, do you already have states planned, or do you see what your mood is like first? I grew up in Colorado and the aspen turning is one of the true glories of autumn. I think the Rockies as a backdrop really showcase the aspen. Of course, I tell my family that they need to check out an October in the northeast for an equally (better, actually - but I don't rub it in) spectacular display.

Can't think what you call the part but you can get a piece that goes on the door over your window where you can keep the window open a little and not get rained on. With those on your front doors, at least you could have a little breeze during the rain.

I'll be mapping it, starting with North Dakota to see the enchanted highway which is 30 miles of metal sculptures. But I haven't decided on anything else yet.

I'd never even heard of the enchanted highway prior to watching the video and I assume I'll see more.

I'll be watching utubes of travelers to make some decisions. I'm sure Colorado will be high on the list. Oregon, Washington, Idaho. Those are states I want to the also.

Awning? Rain guards? There is an awning on the one end of the trailer but if the wind turns the rain could possibly get inside. It was a fairly ferocious storm so I couldn't sleep anyway. I just waited it out and then cracked some of the windows open.

This morning when I went outside I saw it had ripped up the carpet I'd Velcroed to the steps. That was a tough wind. I haven't found the carpet piece yet. I hope not too many trees were downed.

Oops! Sorry, meo! I guess my CRS disease (Can't Remember Sh*t) kicked in. Was thinking you were still sleeping in your car. I was thinking about over your car door window.
