You know what is interesting about this list? Both Tennessee and North Carolina are always on the best places to live and work lists, yet they are below Florida in median household income? And North Carolina has the famed Research Triangle Park. Very interesting.

Yes, and all the top ranked states have much higher cost of living than Florida. Even some of the lower ones like the Carolinas have state income taxes which drain one's income even more. I think Florida is doing all right. My husband and everyone he knows makes a good income here.

I'm not sure, as I have never had a reason to look that up. Given that we have a lot of retirees here, I am willing to bet you would be correct. That would be logical when comparing a major retiree location with a younger, mid career location. I just found it interesting when someone posted a list of state median incomes that two highly rated places to live and "work" actually had lower median incomes than Florida. Quite honestly, I did not expect that.

The "best places" are always Raleigh/Durham or Charlotte. There are some other nice places to live in the state but they don't have the economy of the two major metros. I have'nt looked at the numbers either, but think even the Triad(Winston-salem/Greensboro) might have a higher median income than Tampa Bay.

Nashville has been making the list as well.
But Florida is a state where a ton of retirees move to, so I would expect the median income to drop, as many retirees have lower annual incomes when they stop working. What was surprising to me in this "why do so many people hate FLORIDA" thread, was that the median income list provided showed Florida had a higher median income than both North Carolina and Tennessee. I never would have expected that, based on Florida being a hotspot for retirees and the other two states being places that are supposedly great places for careers.
