SciGuy's a straight shooter. If you're going to listen to anyone around here about hurricanes, he's the one. None of the hysterics like you might see on the Weather Channel or the local networks.

Default Astros/Cubs...Hurricane Ike?

What's the word on the series this weekend? Postponed I'm assuming...at least Saturday's game?

He's really good. Only person I've listened to. He's been doing daily chats at 2pm that have been very informative. At 2 he put the odds of a direct hit on Houston at around 1 in 3... I imagine they've climbed a bit with the latest forecast.

Johnson Space Center just announced they will be closing tomorrow at noon... I imagine some gulf coast evacuations for Harris County will be announced tomorrow morning as well.

Just curious, when/where did you encounter a 3?

we live in portland (across the bridge from Corpus Christi) and the roads are already busy with people leaving from Port A and Rockport and places in between. I lived through several including Ceclia (cat 3) but was going to leave for this one until tonight. Looks like the people up north are in for it. Good luck to all. Keep safe.

She's probably referring to Alicia (1983). Last major hurricane to directly affect the Houston area.

Thanks. Don't let your guard down just yet, but it does look better for South Texas.

I'd probably still say 1-in-3 for a direct hit on Houston, which is to say landfall on the coast somewhere in Brazoria or Galveston counties (excluding High Island, on the east side of the bay - a strike there would put us on the "cleaner" side).

Hurricane Ike could alter Friday plans | astros.com: News

from the Astros's web site, 09/10/2008 8:37 PM ET
"There will be a decision made [Thursday] with regards to Friday's game after continued consultation with the Office of Emergency Management. The safety and well-being of our fans and both teams involved is always our primary concern."

Default As Ike inches closer to Houston, will we see another exodus like in 2005?

Panic may set in, especially if this thing grows to a 4. Rita Part 2.
