Just woke up a while ago, fell asleep around midnight and heard nothing during the storm. Haven't saw yet what the path was through the area, assuming it was Cat1 while it passed. Quick survey outside looks good. Fortunately didn't lose power. A few people here didn't get the thrill they had hoped, a pleasure to see Irma disappoint them.

Appears that the eye veered early and went to Central FL/Kissimmee....dodged another one, TB.

Well said... one guy was on here late yesterday claiming Irma was a non-event and disappointed. I posted a reminder of Barbuda and St. Martin devastation. Found this video of Naples, hardly what one would call a non-event.

Did a quick walkabout this morning. Lots of tree detritus on the ground and roads, no visible damage to the house other than a 20' elm tree being pushed over. Hopefully it can be righted without long term damage.

Never lost power. Thank goodness for underground utilities.

Neighborhood weather station reported maximum wind gusts through the storm of 46 mph.

Time to dust off and start helping others who were less fortunate.

Walked the a section of the community with my canine friend. Saw one neighbor who's screens around their lanai was shredded. Another neighbor took picture of another house in community that had the entire pool enclosure destroyed. Both of these must have been done for "cheap" as winds were no where near the speeds that these newly built structures are required to be engineered for.

Irma! Are you prepared for this storm that seems to be heading out way!-21462740_10105550364696572_4464862950013623410_n.jpg

Power stayed on at both our primary as well as our office. Hopefully the people without power will enjoy the power to come back on soon!

Where do you think we get our wars, soldier?

All kidding aside, I've learned more than I ever cared to know over the past couple of years about manufactured consent and the alliance of media and government.

Now for all the coverage of the "clean up", which will last maybe a week until they get bored and move on to something more juicy. Expect to see lots of footage of tree branches accompanied by the sound of buzz saws and people sweating in the sun.

I'm grateful to bobandsherry for keeping the Caribbean devastation in mind. What happened to Barbuda is tragic beyond belief. These Caribbean islands get whacked all the time and nobody much gives a hoot.
