Yikes! That must have really been an eye opener for you.
It was. Most of the locals here don't worry at all about tornadoes. Its like worrying about winning the lottery and what you will do with all that money. Both are very unlikely to happen so life goes on.
They had me park in the far parking lot, which is fine. But around 10 pm a group of young adults gathered and proceeded to talk loudly until 12ish. They weren't doing anything wrong, just loud talking. I think I'll stick to Loves from here on out, unless I come across a Travel Plaza. Those were great.
I have converted 4 vans into motorhomes and 2 motorhomes into nicer ones. I have taken them out overnight either Walmart, a casino, etc. Only thing that would make me feel uncomfortable would be I am already in bed trying to sleep. Its late. Then a vehicle pulls up next to me and someone gets out. I would always park far away from everyone else. I would look out and in reality they were parted pretty far away. Sound kind of travels funny at night when you are in a vehicle.
Slept wonderfully blast night, which I didn't really expect because there were a lot of trucks. Rather than the engine noise bothering me, they lulled me to sleep.
I'm close to the Arkansas border and will soon cross over. I wanted to buy a tee shirt but they're too expensive here. $29 is way too much.
Should reach Tennessee in two days, unless I spot a state park where I can stop and let Marigold out for awhile. I can't do that at a truck stop.
A few things happened today. Even though it was a little early to stop yesterday, I stopped anyway. As I'd mentioned, I had a wonderful sleep.
This morning I was getting ready to leave and I spotted a man on the side of the building rolling up his sleeping bag. It tugged at my heartstrings and I decided since I had extra money, I would give him twenty. Especially since ha had on a tee shirt with a cross on it.
Well, I went up to him, gave him the twenty and we talked
Turns out he's a pastor and it was put on his heart to walk from OK to CA to raise funds to build warehouses to fill that will help in major disasters throughout the US.
You can read about his walk on Facebook at MinistryofTruth.USA. His name is Pastor Roger L. Gates.
It's amazing what happens when you listen to your intuition. 1st, by stopping early at that particular Loves, 2nd, moving close to the spot where he was in the morning to adjust my belongings before traveling on, 3rd, having the feeling that I should share my wealth.
The second thing that happened wasn't very good. I stopped at a Pilot because I'd heard they had the same practice as Love's. When I asked, the woman looked at me disdainfully and said no. Very sorry I stopped there. The way she acted put a bad taste in my mouth.
I went further up the road and found a Loves. They couldn't have been sweeter. Said to park wherever I found a spot. Another woman rushed to open the door ad I was juggling a drink and my cane.
Sorry I bought gas at the Pilot but will make sure to buy something here. Sweet, sweet people.

See, there was a reason the t-shirt you wanted to buy was way over priced as there was another more important reason for your $20.00...
I don't have Facebook but did find this from last May
Thank you Mr B for finding that article. I almost talked myself out of it, before I saw his shirt and knew I needed to help him. He shared the part of his story about building the warehouse and his walk but I didn't know the rest.
I don't think I've ever felt such a strong conviction to help someone, even before hearing his story. And I've already been blessed by the way the people at this Love's are treating me, in fact, it's even more special because of the treatment by Pilot staff.
Woke up to rain, just a slight shower. I'll wait until sunrise to see what happens before I move on.
Yesterday I finally bought a Loves cup for a grand $3+. I figured it was about time I showed my loyalty. It turns out that you pay the refill price when you use it, a savings of .50 or .60 when you use it. It will pay for itself over and over again.
When I went to the counter to pay, a younger than me man said, I'll get her refill. I was really surprised and thankful. My first thought was that he must love his mom as it's something my son would have done.
Southern hospitality is real, at least where I've been - except for that one woman at Pilot. It makes me want to spend more time getting to know these delightful people.
I'm at a rest stop in Tennessee. I'd heard that Tennessee allows you to stay overnight and, at least at this one, they do. I drove further than I wanted to but the only Love's I found was in West Memphis and that was a no. I expected that though as it's a big city/town and I usually don't even try at those.
I'll be in Nashville tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing my brother that lives there.

Love following you as you make posts about your travels. I hope some day to do something similar. The part about staying overnight at Tennessee rest stops caught my eye. I usually trek through there annually on road trips from Texas to Ohio, and we always stop to sleep at rest areas. Everything I have read says Tennessee only allows you to stay at rest areas for 2 hours, with no overnight parking. Although I have seen a few cars parked early in the morning, like around 4 or 5, which makes me wonder if those people actually slept there. If parking overnight is allowed, that offers up another state along the way where we could park and sleep.
