In the evenings I teach ESL (English as a second language) classes to adults. There is a noticeable uptick of younger Ukrainian men in the classes. I don't bring up the war, but sometimes they are a bit outspoken on it, while they are safely here in the states. When they are here avoiding fighting, it isn't convincing to their cause to make the argument they need money in Ukraine. They were smart to get out of harm's way. Maybe they should leave it at that.
I had a Ukrainian exchange student who went back after the two years here. His dad is rich so he is exempt from conscription. Good kid, glad he's safe.

Russia is even more corrupt than Ukraine, which is saying a lot.
Don't cheer for a government, cheer for the people, which is cheering for peace.
The reported loss of 13 Russian aircraft in February — 10 Su-34s, two Su-35s, and one A-50 — marks a hot streak for Ukraine and its greatest results since last fall.
None of the aircraft are replaceable.
I think they are replaceable. It might take Russia longer but everything is replaceable.
Russia is providing evidence that Ukraine is sending under age and over age people to the front.
A 17 year old Ukrainian girl was just killed in a counter attack to try and plug a Russian break through.
This is exactly what you would expect from a nation fighting for it's survival. The USA had minors serving in WW2. They typically lied about their age so they could volunteer. But it certainly did happen, and our situation was nowhere near as desperate. Of course, the USSR had plenty of female soldiers during WW2 (not sure about underage), and the nazis used a ton of underage soldiers at the end of the war.

The US did lower the minimum draft age from 21 to 18 years after almost a year at war in November of 1942.
