Slavyansk today. Population has opposing views. Someone supporting rebels, someone believes that Ukraine should not be divided. (Russian language)

Also keep in mind that a lot of people left the city after surrender.

No no. I've actually thought about it a bit, why this Russian propaganda just works so well for you. With my kitchen psychology skills it indeed seems that most Russians never have learned or being taught how to think for themselves. In Western Europe kids are encouraged to question everything from a very young age, while Soviet/Russian kids were/are taught that state media is the truth, and if you don't believe it you're a 'provocateur or fascist'. And it's ongoing. Someone promises something, the kids are sent to Putin Jugend camps to be indoctrinated, and all opposition is destroyed. Like that after 2015 social media companies that collect any kind of information must be on Russian servers, or otherwise they will be banned. In 2016 youtube, facebook, twitter, everything outside the state media will be blocked.
With this the Kremlin assures that you won't learn anything that is coming outside the official media.

The American knowledge of geography is well known and ridiculed, no wonder if CNN would put Paris on the place St. Petersburg is.

You are mistaken. Russian always been able to read "between the lines." I do not think that Russian propaganda more than in other countries. For example, I can easily see this when watching videos about the preparation of the Sochi Olympics, or when I watch videos about the situation in Ukraine.

All that I write about Ukraine not taken from official sources. These are different forums and opinions acquaintances. I think that someone will be interested to see the situation in Ukraine in another perspective.

Incidentally, filtration points do exist. It looks like a temporary prison where placed those who helped the rebels. What happens next is not clear. There are various rumors, but the evidence is unavailable

Default People of Slavjansk meet the soldiers of the Ukrainian army

Only 10% buildings are destroyed in Slavjansk - it's a success of the Anti - Terrorist Operation.

Fought 3 months, 10% destroyed Slavyansk, 50% Nikolaevka, 100% Semyonovka, destroyed CHP, and failed to capture the rebels, they are almost entirely out of the environment. Yes, it is a success.

Again Ariete - you don't quite understand what happened there with this change of government and "what Ukraine wants" and who is sitting in Kiev. See, people who are sitting in Kiev (Poroshenko, Yatzenuk et al) look very much like benign folks, someone friendly to "democratic ideas" "free markets" and all, everything what the West wants to hear. This kind of people are known as "liberals" in Russian politics, and Russia has them too, but the difference is that in Russia, as desperate as these people are, under the current political circumstances, THEY DO NOT UNITE with Russian nationalists, creating a unified front, although both often stand side by side during anti-government protests. This is not the case in Ukraine, where said above liberals united with the nationalists, or even better to say - came to power on their rifles ( or rather Molotov's cocktails.) See, the way it works ( in Slavic world at least,) - it's not enough to have the "thinkers," the "intellectuals," the "liberals" to simply come up with "ideas" - you need the peasants and workers, that are ready to take guns to support these ideas and to implement them into life. And this time, those who agreed to carry guns to bring the new government to power and to become the backbone of all the military operations? happened to be Ukrainian nationalists, whose agenda is not always "to be part of Europe" and more often - "Ukraine - above everything." That's why where you, westerners, see the smiling faces of liberals representing the facade of "democratic Ukrainian government," those who live in Ukraine, see the bared teeth of the nationalists, if someone dares to"not to support *democratically-elected government.* Hope this will help you to understand situation, finally.

Not especially targeted towards you, but much of the propaganda that people in this thread sincerely believe in is shocking. For us all this ethnic cleansing stuff is as uninmaginable as Queen Elizabeth II eating babies for breakfast. It just can't and will not happen.
But Ukraine is not "part of Europe." So what might be "unimaginable for you, is quite imaginable in Ukraine.

Not the newest video, but it speaks for itself. Meeting of Ukrainian troops in Kramatorsk. Sorry, this time no translation, except "Where you brought gun? Put your gun idiot," "Shame!" and "Nazis get out of here," there are no decent words and expressions
Video
People seem happy to see "liberators"... or not?
Video made today I posted a little earlier, by the way

See jeremiahshope.org for more information about just such an organization assisting civilian refugees from Slavyansk. All of these refugees chose to leave Slavyansk to protect themselves and their children from the violence and totalitarian regime attempting to establish itself in place of the rightful, democratic government of Ukraine.
All of these refugees found the shelter in "charitable organizations" - all 63 of them? How sweet.

What's about tens of thousands of them who preferred to run to Russia instead? You think it happened because of just "Russian propaganda"? You think they are all that stupid - all hundred thousands of them?

Quote:
I hope and expect most of the refugees will return, now that Slavyansk has been liberated and stability and legal government are being restored.
What "stability" with EU-imposed regulations are you talking about?

Also, as of today, water and electricity are being repaired in Slavyansk by the order of the elected Ukrainian government, and food - bread and stew - is being given free of charge to the residents, who have been suffering under the control of "Donbass" for the last three months.
They were suffering under the bombardment of the "legal government" first of all.

Don't be so quick to swallow all the negative propaganda which is coming from Russia. Are you aware that the Kremlin is paying people to post pro-Russian, anti-Ukrainian (and often anti-American) falsehoods and major distortions of fact in the comments section of many prominent Western news sources, including "The Washington Post", "The Wall Street Journal". CNN, ABC, "The New York Times", and many others? Their efforts are very obvious, given frequent misspellings, misuse of words and colloquial American English phrases, non-native English speaking grammatical mistakes, and of course, their obvious slant and deliberate disinformation.
Sorry, not to defend some crazy posters out there, but are you saying that the US owns the exclusive "patent on "truth"" somehow?

Quote:
Such comments are very much like the black and white pictures a "Novorossiya" supporter has recently posted in this thread, claiming that they are current pictures from the conflict at Slavyansk. Instead, they appear to date to World War II - they are certainly not contemporary, as can be easily determined by the uniforms of the soldiers, particularly their helmets. How dumb do posters like this think the rest of us are??
It's about certain parallels that people are making. They do it a for a reason.

So - read as many different news sources as possible, Western as well as Russian and Ukrainian.
And if after reading all mentioned above sources she still disagrees with your point of view?

Quote:
All these claims of the Kyiv government being fascist are hogwash. Yes, there are right-wing parties in Ukraine - just as there are democratic parties, leftist parties, probably libertarian parties, green parties, progressive parties, conservative parties, and certainly moderate, middle-of-the-road parties, which draw the greatest number of supporters.
So basically you are not familiar with the parties in Ukraine or what's the current situation with "support" there - yet you are explaining to her how she should perceive current events?
