Slavyansk preparing to surrender. Most of the rebels left the city. Rebels are preparing to defend Donetsk. Let's see how residents Slavyansk will meet Ukrainian army of liberators after leaving rebels.
They rejoice in vain. Strelkov came out of encirclement, machines also came out . Keep the city, which fell into the environment did not make sense. And it is not clear how people will react to enter the city of the Ukrainian troops. Most likely they will not be much pleased.
Everything is just beginning.
Even Motorola managed to get out of Nikolayevka, where they kept the defense ("Smerch" and howitzers worked on them).

Naaah, it's over. The separatists were unable to take control of the whole area, to gain the popular support of the people, and most importantly - the confidence of Putin. The separatists are routed, left alone, and never had much to begin with.
The general populace who lost their homes won't be happy, but I think most people just want all this crap to end. The whole "Novorossija" thing was nothing but imagination in the first place, and was fueled only by ruthless opportunism of some individuals longing for personal power. The wasn't anything but the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts partly seized by armed bands, despite the massive Russian propaganda giving the impression that everyone everywhere were supporting something called Novorossija. In fact, maybe 25% supported, and maybe 5% were ready to do active resistance against their home country - Ukraine. And now these 5% have a lot of blood on their hands.

It was not about "Putin's confidence." It was about the interest of the capital that he represents, and whether the Eastern part of Ukraine sufficiently served these interests. According to his calculations, it hasn't. Of course in the back of his mind he thinks that Ukraine is a financially failed project anyway, and it's only a matter of time when it'll slide into chaos, where he'll be able to claim the victory of his "wise planning" all along. However the Ukrainian nationalism and such events as those that took place in Odessa brought forth a lot of Russian nationalism. So Putin's political future remains to be seen.
Me personally - I believe that American project "Ukraine" is doomed to fail, because of the historic background alone, not to mention other circumstances.

That's a safe bet, as anything like that won't happen.
