They can do this through imposing on the debtor country to accept a hand-picked technocrat to run the government in exchange for more funding from the IMF. Sec. State Albright made out like a bandit from the breakup of Yugoslavia with her investment firm. Biden's son is already associated with one of the oil & gas exploration firms in Ukraine.

The investor can be national or transnational, what is the difference?
The main thing is correct payment of taxes and the state can and must control it.

Ukraine can't be a economy based on resources, there isn't big supplies of oil or gas. The mining of coal is expensive.
Therefore it's effective for Ukraine to follow standards of open economy.

And a question: The USA isn't afraid of Chinese investors. Why Ukraine ought to be afraid of American ones?

What Ukraine has are pipes leading from Russia to Europe, oil & gas based infrastructure, and the Biden family to control the flow of gas to the EU - from Ukraine. That's why North & South Stream are being blocked by the US. Gas & Oil $$$$$$$$.
What western Ukraine has is tons of farmland that could be used by Monsanto.

What the US didn't consider - OPEC is a very well organized and efficient operation. They won't let the US interfere with that. They will control the oil prices until the US/EU fracking boom becomes unprofitable and collapses. Imo, parts of western Ukraine may still be on the table for the US but Eastern Ukraine is already gone.

Just curious...it would be nice if Rossiya threw some rubles into Ukraine to get some 'development' going. They don't seem to be offering much. Why blame Ukraine for being smart by looking the other way to do something with their economy? My take is Rossiya is strangling the chickens that can be laying some eggs, see?

First one must note that nothing is free. Russia gave them loans in the past and preferential prices for gas ect.

What are the Russians supposed to do? Give everything to them for nothing? It's called capitalism. Deal with it.

Sich Motor, many other companies all depend on Russia for their livelihood. I personally went to Kharkov years ago to check some train batteries before they were used. With the fanatic whackos in Kiev now they will destroy what amounts to a large part of the Ukrainian economy.

Sich Motor isn't going to sell helicopter engines to the west and Russia has the means to make her own in Voronezh and Chelyabinsk.

It's not Russias fault Ukraine is so *****ed up. It's the Ukrainian peoples fault.

Because of the way the business is done. If you knew anything about colonial exploitation you would not have even asked the question.

It's funny how Russians on here perceive potential business deals between the Ukraine and the US as colonial exploitation, but the invasion and annexation of a region is just paying a fair price for loans and preferential prices for gas in the past.

Hilarious.
